【英式英文】11個英國人才會用的慣用語！

在英式英文當中，有許多慣用語是我們在學美式英語時從未聽過的。這些用法也相當有趣而值得學習！

Learn British English Free的講師Chris便提出了11個英文人才會使用的慣用語，希望帶你了解迷人腔調下的英式文化！

1. Pop one’s clogs 過世

E.g. No one knew he was about to pop his clogs.
沒人知道他將要死去。

2. That went down a treat 非常享受

e.g. That cake went down a treat.
這蛋糕真太讓人享受了。

3. Take the mickey 嘲弄

e.g. Stop taking the mickey out of your brother.
別再嘲弄你弟弟了。

4. Itchy feet 嘗鮮

e.g. After two years in the job she’s got itchy feet, so she’s going to spend three months in Australia.
工作兩年之後她就待不住了，因此她打算在澳洲待上三個月。

5. At a loose end 無所事事

e.g. He’s been at a loose end ever since he retired.
自從他退休後，他就無所事事了。

6. Another string to your bow 擁有另一項新技能

e.g. I’m learning French so I’ll have another string to my bow.
我正在學法文，如此一來我就有另一項新技能了。

7. As the actress said to the bishop

就像女演員會對主教說的話，暗示女演員經常會跟主教發生關係，等於美式英文的「that’s what she said」(那正是她會說的話)，通常用於和性有關的對話。
e.g. Blimey, that’s a big one — as the actress said to the bishop.

8. Bob’s your uncle (and fanny’s your aunt)

(用以表示工作輕而易舉)一切如意、這樣就對了
e.g. A: “Where’s the Queen Elizabeth Pub?” A：「伊莉莎白皇后酒吧在哪裡？」
B: “You go down the road, take the first left and Bob’s your uncle — there it is on the corner!” B：「你沿著這條路直走，第一個路口左轉，你就會看到酒吧在街角了！」

9. Cheap as chips 太便宜了

e.g. Only a fiver for a ticket — cheap as chips mate!”
一張票只要五英鎊，真是太便宜了！

10. Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves

等同於「金錢積少成多」，不要浪費每一分錢。

11. Nosy parker 愛管閒事的人

e.g. Stop being such a nosy parker! They’re having a private conversation!
別這麼愛管閒事！他們正在進行私人對話！
