該怎麼樣能用英文把故事講得很豐富呢？懂一點烹飪的人都一定知道：在燉煮食物時，如果只使用肉和水，或許還加一點鹽。這樣烹煮食物的口味是非常淡的，很多人是不會去吃的，但我們還是會稱為“燉”，因為還是要花幾個小時的時間去烹煮。而有美味的燉煮方式，會加上蕃茄、馬鈴薯、香料等酌料去烹煮，讓人感到這道料理是有用心且美味的。
其實，講故事就像在燉煮食物一樣。如果只是平淡無奇的在述說一個故事，儘管是有人物、有事件，還是沒有那麼吸引人的；但如果利用了一些起承轉合的方式，或是帶有著一些不同的情緒，會使人聽得更津津有味！
《mmmEnglish》中的講師Emma提供了一個故事兩種說法，讓讀者們可以參考一下：
第一種說法：
“Yesterday I was on the bus and a large man came onto the bus and sat next to me and it made me feel uncomfortable.”
昨天我在公共汽車上，一個彪悍的男人上了公共汽車，坐在我旁邊，這讓我感到不舒服。
第二種說法：
“Uh, you’ll never believe what happened to me yesterday. I was on the bus on my way to work. I had my head buried in a book – it’s a really good book. But out of the corner of my eye I saw this massive shape coming towards me… So, I looked up and there’s this whale of a man shuffling down the aisle of the bus. His chubby little fingers clutching at bags of groceries that he’s just bought from the shop. He’s so fat that he can’t even fit down straight, he has to turn sideways and move down the bus!Anyway, I’m thinking to myself, “oh please, oh please, oh please don’t sit next to me, choose any other seat on the bus!!! Don’t sit here!” But I saw his eyes lock into the seat and he’s coming over towards me and he leaned down and said, “Is this seat taken? And I quickly look around the bus to see if any other passengers is waving to say “Don’t worry! He can sit next to me.” But no one is… And so I said, “Sure, you can sit there.”I mean what am i supposed to say? He’s huge! He could literally squash me if I made him angry. Needless to say, the next 30 minutes were the most uncomfortable 30 minutes of my life! I spent it squashed up against the glass, while he piled up all his bags around him And I don’t have to tell you how awkward and uncomfortable it was, trying to get passed him to get off the bus. I had to peel myself off him! Ugh! I think I’m going to buy a car now!”
呃，你不會相信我昨天發生了什麼事。我在上班的路上。我把頭埋在書裡 – 這是一本很好的書。但是在我的眼角之外，我看到這個龐大的身軀向我走來……所以，我抬起頭，有一個男人在公共汽車的走道上蹣跚地走著。他胖乎乎的手指抓著他剛剛從商店買來的雜貨。他胖的以至於他無法直接地走過來，他必須透過側身的方式走過來！我在內心說著：「哦拜託，哦拜託，拜託不要坐在我旁邊，選別的位置！不要坐在這裡！」但是我看到他的眼睛就鎖定在這個座位上，他朝我走來，他傾個身問：「這座位可以坐嗎？」我快速看看車子四周，看看是否有其他乘客揮手說：「不要擔心！他可以坐在我旁邊。」但沒有人……所以我說：「當然，你可以坐在這。」我的意思是我應該說什麼？他是那樣龐大的！如果我讓他生氣，他可以真正的壓扁我。不用說，接下來的30分鐘是我生命中最不舒服的30分鐘！他把他的所有東西都放在他周圍，而我被壓在玻璃上。我不必告訴你這是多麼尷尬和不舒服，試圖讓他下車。我不得不剝離他！啊！我想我現在要買一輛車！
第一個說法就是屬於敘述一個事件，用一兩句話草草帶過，但一般人比較沒有興趣聽這種故事；而第二個說法就加上了一些“香料”，使得故事變得有高低起伏。這些“香料”可以包涵了一些細節、一些資訊，不僅僅是用幾個字去帶過，再加入一些身體語言，可以使得整故事更完整更有趣。
Emma還提供三個講故事的法則：
1.設置場景
你在哪裡？你為什麼在哪裡？誰和你待在一起？你看到什麼了？你感覺到什麼？做一些細節上的描述。
2.表示你的反應
在那個時間點發生了什麼事情，而你的反應又是什麼。
3.添加對話
可以用一些不同說話語氣來表達這些對話，但要小心文法的用法！
