用短短一句話的諺語(proverb)，道盡人生大道理，可謂語言當中的精隨。你聽過哪些廣為流傳的諺語呢？
Learn British English Free 的講師Chris與English Like A Native的講師Anna，一起合作提出了英國常用的諺語，非常實用且好記喔！
1. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
涵義：兩個都錯，不等於其中一個對。
引申為「自己做了錯事，就不能說別人也是這樣如此來替自己辯護。」
2. When in the Rome, do as the Romans do.
涵義：入境隨俗。
3. The pen is mightier than the sword.
涵義：筆墨勝刀劍。
4. Better late than never.
涵義：遲到總比不到好。
5. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
涵義：當情況越發困難時，堅強得人會更勇於面對挑戰。
6. There’s no place like home.
涵義：哪裡也不如自己溫暖的家。
7. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
涵義：東西別壞就別修、不要沒事找事。
如果某件事物、情況的運作處於良好狀態，就沒必要去改變它。
Ain’t = am not, are not, is not, have not, has not
8. No man is an island.
涵義：沒有人是一座孤島。引申為「人無法獨自生存。」
9. Beggars can’t be choosers.
涵義：饑者不得擇食。也就是有求於人者，通常無法有其他選擇。
10. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
涵義：懷抱最好的希望，但做最壞的準備。
11. Actions speak louder than words.
涵義：行動勝於言語、事實勝於雄辯。
12. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.
涵義：團結你的朋友，更要團結你的敵人。引申為「知己知彼，百戰百勝。」
