1. Down in the mouth
垂頭喪氣、嘴角下垂的樣子。
ex. You’re looking down in the mouth. What’s the problem?
2. Down in the dumps (or in the dumps)
因沮喪、痛苦而情緒低落。
ex:He’s been down in the dumps ever since he lost his job.
ex. Sharon is down in the dumps because her boyfriend has gone on holiday without her.
3. Reduced to tears
指的是某個人或某件事「讓」你難過落淚。
ex. My boss reduced me to tears when he shouted at me.
ex. Her mother reduces her to tears with her constant criticism.
4. Feeling blue or to have the blues
這裡的”blue”指的是憂鬱、情緒低落。
ex. I’m feeling blue today.
ex. She has the blues because she hasn’t seen her boyfriend for a week.
5. Lump in your throat
如鯁在喉，因為強烈的悲傷等情感而讓你感到喉嚨緊繃。
ex. The movie was so touching that i had a lump in my throat.
6. Face like a wet weekend
英國俚語「臉像愁雲慘霧的周末」，指一個人很難過，且情緒全寫在臉上。
ex. Mom’s face is like a wet weekend because the food didn’t taste good.
