英文「beside」與「besides」其實只差了一個字母s，但卻有各自不同的中文意思與用法，這真是英文尤其惱人之處！
但Engvid的講師Emma貼心地整理出「beside」和「besides」的相關用法，讓你在之後遇到這兩個字而不知如何分辨時，能有個遵循的依據！
英文 Beside、Besides 用法與中文意思
1.Beside (prep.) 在旁邊
Beside 的第一個用法是「在…旁邊」的意思，此時用法接近於「 at the side of 」。
例：
Come and sit here beside me.
過來坐在我身邊。
例：
Our school was built right beside the bank.
我們學校建在銀行旁邊。
2. Beside oneself 極度興奮、神智失常
Beside oneself 是個英文片語，意思是「極度興奮、神智失常」的意思。
例：
Luke was beside himself when Obi-Wan Kenobi died.
當Obi-Wan Kenobi逝世，Luke陷入神智失常。
3.Beside 和……無關、離（題）
Beside 的第三個用法則是「和….無關」的意思。
例：
That’s beside the point!
這偏離主題了！
4.Besides 除了……之外
Besides 的常見用法有兩個，第一個適當 in addition to 來用，也就是「除了…之外」的意思。
例：
Who was at the restaurant besides Chewbacca and Han Solo?
除了Chewbacca 與 Han Solo以外，誰在餐廳裡？
例：
Besides watching Star Wars, what else do you like to do?
除了欣賞星際大戰電影之外，你還喜歡做甚麼？
例：Besides milk and butter, we need some vegetables.
除了牛奶跟奶油，我們還需要些蔬菜。
5.Besides 除此之外、而且
Besides 還可以用來當作「除此之外、而且」的意思，用來補充前面句子的資訊。
例：
I don’t want to go outside. It’s too cold. Besides, Jar Jar Binks is here.
我不想到外頭去，天氣太冷了。而且Jar Jar Binks在外面。
例：
I’m too tired to blow up the Death Star. Besides, we need to fix R2-D2.
我已經累到無法炸毀死星了。而且我們需要修理R2-D2。
例：Besides Tom, Jenny and I are going to Taipei.
除了湯姆之外，珍妮跟我將會去台北。（湯姆會去）

6.Besides 除了
Besides 還可以當「除了…」來用。
例：
No ship besides the Millennium Falcon can fly that fast.
除了Millennium Falcon之外沒有船艦能飛行得如此之快。
7. beside vs. besides 用法練習

(2) Do you want to sit _______ Alice or Aya?
(3) That’s ______ the point!
