當有朋友生日時，你會不會和其他人一起集資(chip in)，買份大禮送給他/她呢？或是當你不得不花一大筆錢，去買到想要的商品，你是否會覺得有些心不甘情不願？
Learn British English Free的講師Chris提出了兩個和「付錢」有關的片語動詞「chip in」與「cough up」，下次在特定情況下要付錢的時候，就可以使用「pay」以外的片語動詞囉！
1. Chip in
共同出錢 – contribute to a collective payment:
e.g. Kate’s leaving soon and we’re getting her a present, would you like to chip in?
Kate就要離開了，我們打算和送他一個禮物，你要不要一起出錢呢？
2. Cough up
– pay for something that’s overdue or pay reluctantly
(1) 逾期還款
e.g. He’s owed me that cash for weeks, it’s about time he coughed up.
他已經欠我錢好幾週了，是時候該還錢了吧。
(2) 勉強付錢
e.g. If you want a fancy car, you’re going to have to cough up.
如果你想要那台很炫的車，你就得乖乖付錢。
