百老匯泛指聚集在紐約曼哈頓劇院區與林肯中心的劇院，均為座位500 個以上的專業劇院，與倫敦西區（West End）齊名，是英語系國家中最高等級的劇院區，尤以音樂劇演出而聞名。另外還有分為規模較小，比較具有實驗性質的外百老匯（Off-Broadway）與外外百老匯（Off- Off-Broadway）。
整個百老匯同時上演的劇那麼多，只要想清楚各自的需求，不堅持跟大家擠超級大熱門，一定都能買到不錯的票。有些人只是圖個經驗，這輩子應該不會再看第二次，那就找設備好、氣氛佳的劇院買張便宜的票，進去到處逛，舒舒服服坐下來隨便看什麼都好；如果真的是音樂劇愛好者，但英文能力不佳，就找歌曲旋律動聽、已經了解劇情的戲，好好聽一晚上的歌；至於一定要看最熱門、最讓人「哇!」的戲的人，當然要提前上網訂票。
