即使是說中文，我們偶而也會說一些贅字，在說英文時當然也會發生。若是犯了這些錯誤，可能就會在托福或雅思考試上被扣分，不可不注意；外國人聽了，更會覺得奇怪。
《Engvid》網站的講師Rebecca就在網站上提出了了8個常見的錯誤。
1.The car was speeding too fast.
贅字：too fast
只要說”The car was speeding.”即可，因為speeding本身就有too fast的意思。
2.We will progress forward this year.
贅字：forward
progress本身就有前進的意思。
3.Do you have any other alternatives?
贅字：other
alternatives本身就代表著other opinions的意思，因此other為多餘的贅字。
4.When are you returning back?
贅字：back
returning本身即有going back的意思。
5.Could you repeat the directions again?
贅字：again
repeat即有again的意思。
6.Please continue on with your work.
贅字：on
continue本身就有go on的意思，所以不需要再重複說on。
7.They meet together often.
贅字：together
meet本身就有together的意思。
8.We reserved the seats in advance.
贅字：in advance
reserve本身有”in advance”的意涵。
